M had to pry me from the heirloom tomatoes at the farmer's market. i'm obsessed. the simplest dressing for any in-season tomato from Mark Bittman's book:

4 to 6 garlic cloves, peeled and smashed
salt and black pepper to taste
1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
2 pounds tomatoes, preferably plum, cored, peeled if you like, and sliced (i broke this rule)
20 fresh basil leaves, torn into small pieces

1. whisk together the garlic, salt, vinegar, and olive oil. place the tomatoes on a platter and strain the dressing over them.
2. top with the basil leaves, a little more salt and some pepper. serve immediately.

old polaroids of friends...

IMG_3157

:: mikey :: once hid a box of samoas from me + our roommate betsy by wrapping the box in tinfoil + hiding them in the back of the freezer. if it wasn't for the likely onset of staleness, he would have kept them by his bedside.

:: jules :: + i met our first day at college. upon learning that I too was a scorpio, she promptly stated that we would not be friends. she is also the creator of this.

:: kenne :: when kenne laughs uncontrollably, she makes what i call a "churdling" noise. it is the best laugh. kenne also introduced me to tj maxx - a place i refuse to ever revisit due to the excessive fluorescent lighting.

Tonight's dinner: panzanella salad. Can you tell I have a total crush on Ina Garten? Sometimes I pretend I'm preparing a snack for Jeffrey while making an unholy mess in my Hampton's kitchen which, thankfully, my TV crew will clean up post-filming.

I've got quilts on the mind, so I thought I'd share some pics of my first quilt. It's made entirely from my family's old clothing - machine sewed and hand quilted.

My admiration for Anni Albers revealed. I'm hoping to start some drawings / plans for a quilt based on the windmill pattern (like these prints) though the idea of dealing with a triangle seems kind of daunting... I'm tempted to make a shape joke and it's taking every ounce of me to refrain.

1st cantaloupe I've ever picked - and delicious it was. I'm officially on the hunt for my next melon. For Ben - more food :)
