Goodbye clouds, hello summer! Homemade pizza fest (thank you Erica + Alex!) + a day at the beach + too many breakfasts at Rockridge Cafe + Mad Men = perfect long weekend.

In my four years of living in California, today was the first time I had ever heard thunder! While it only amounted to a single roar and shudder, I found it sufficiently thrilling and dramatic. More surprising than that was the bright sun later that early evening (yes, evening) as seen below.
Sun on my brand new ABK shoes.

I'm not sure where this drawing is going. Maybe nowhere? I've been thinking of a new drawing I'd like to do possibly on "real" paper. There's something about stark white sheets of paper that intimidates me though. I feel like I'm more prone to messing up. Maybe that's why I've been drawing on lined sheets in my Moleskin notebook.

Highlights from my Saturday at CCA's 2010 MFA exhibition. Mara Baldwin's work was by far my favorite (can you tell?)...
Above: Mara Baldwin. How to remember something quickly, 2010. Pen and watercolor on paper, soiled pillow, silk pins.
Above: Mara Baldwin. The apparition, 2010. Disarticulated fitted bed sheet.
Above: Mara Baldwin. The revelation, 2010. Watercolor and color pencil on paper, throw rug.

Cleaned the desk to clear the mind. I got a second wind late last night and felt a need to rid myself of old paperwork, newspaper clippings, and misc files to start anew with a no-nonsense space to help my brain breathe.
Feeling like the wall looks spare, but maybe that's a good thing. What do you think?
Wall tidbits are:
1. a Maggie Haas postcard
2. tuft of Japanese maple dyed wool
3. gouache painting inspired by Anni Albers
4. photos of Clydesdale horses in Sonoma

I found myself incapable of resisting the temptation to pluck this "rabbit's ear" leaf from a neighbors stachys byzantina plant this afternoon. It's so soft and silky that I've been rubbing it all day and carrying it with me from room to room. I'm unbelievably in love with this little leaf.
