let's be frank, i've spent a long time brewing up this quilt and it's been awhile since my last post. summer has come to a close and i'm embarrassed to see autumn arrive with such little progress to show. but, i assure you that my delinquent hiatus from quilt making is not without reason! as it turns out, it's awfully difficult if not painstakingly frustrating when you can't lay out your quilt in a shoebox-sized apartment. know what i mean? let me clarify - our bathroom is so small you could "stay seated" and wash your hands in the sink at the same time. true story, but it is what it is. in any case, i postponed working on the quilt until i paid a visit to my parents home in sonoma where, much to my mother's dismay, i overtook their dining room for an entire weekend. hello gorgeous wooden floors and expansive square footage! hello my pretend studio with vaulted ceilings! don't mind if i do occasionally look up from my work to take in the rolling hillside vistas! what's that dad? an affogato for a late afternoon pick-me-up? yes please, i'll take two scoops of homemade vanilla ice cream in my espresso!

a weekend with my parents is so good, but i digress. the point: i got a lot done. so now the hand quilting begins...

i've been MIA from this space but i've got reasons galore... first off, summer beckons and what's worse than sitting in front of your computer while the sun is shining outside. and shit y'all, i bin sewin' up a storm in herr! let's do the math...

23 squares x 23 squares
= 529 squares total (1058 triangles)

memorial day weekend was spent trying to pick-up where i left off. i've gone through 4 different possible designs and i'm still moving things around. it never ends.

more beautiful quilts available at apc. "q24 plantation" is my favorite without question.

remember this? i'm only now just getting around to working with it. if i were in new york, i would love to take this workshop with shabd.

lately, i've been avoiding the computer big time and consequently, that means the blog as well. i was at work on the computer per usual when my neck muscles froze up and made all activities nearly impossible. i blame excessive computer time, hence my absence. on the plus, slight incapacitation means lying on the couch all day planning the next project... and also watching episodes of my so called life nonstop... you know, for research... or something.

also - just so you know, this site is not me... but gosh, people have been thinking it is. what to do?

the quilt is finally done! i'm patting myself on the back since i can be a procrastinator, but not this time! the wedding is a little over a month away, so i've got plenty of time to excitedly think about my july 4 in vancouver (how unpatriotic of me to leave the states) and a trip to new york for the wedding festivities. but i wouldn't be my restless self if i didn't start delving into my next quilt. i've had some ideas stewing for some time now and i can't wait to get going on something new.

should i start writing santa now?

an old gift from my friend mikey found at a flea market or thrift store when he was living in brussels. i've been taking a little break from my recent quilt - trying to drum up inspiration for the back. hmm...

75% done with piecing the front of the quilt - one row to go! it still needs to be pressed, so forgive the puckering. 

a.p.c. now sells quilts here as a project started by jessica ogden + jean touitou. it was inspired by the years of archived a.p.c. fabrics available to work with and trying to find a way to recycle them. all of the quilts have been handstitched by indian women from the bangladore region of india. so beautiful. i want this one.

good morning!



it's been so hot here the past couple of days that it's been difficult for me to work - nothing too appealing about ironing in a sweltering top floor apartment, but i persevere just the same. quilt project 03, better known as adrienne and shaun's wedding offering, has officially swallowed me whole. i hustle home from work, have a snack, cue up ira glass, and dive in till i feel peckish again. all the while, i'm loving the process and feel so much more organized with this 3rd quilt. research pays off for sure!

I've got quilts on the mind, so I thought I'd share some pics of my first quilt. It's made entirely from my family's old clothing - machine sewed and hand quilted.

I promised a friend that I'd make her a quilt when she got engaged... and then 3 weeks later she got engaged! Despite the fact that I have a solid year and a half to make this quilt, I've been feeling a little uninspired lately. Luckily, I found Abby Clawson Low's incredible quilts today on Hi + Low via Lena Corwin's blog - and now I'm itching to start! P.S. Congrats Adge!!

Sheets changed, bed made, quilt flipped. Same quilt from here but the reverse side featuring more striped organic hemp, plant dyed indigo fabric, and other patterns n prints I wish I had more of. My favorite is the light blue floral trim which you can see below. Such a small thing!
